Aluminum vs uPVC Windows: Which Is Better for Jaipur Homes?

The uPVC vs aluminum debate settled for Jaipur's climate — heat performance, durability, aesthetics, cost, and a manufacturer's honest recommendation.

The Short Answer

For Jaipur: aluminum wins in almost every scenario. Here is why — and when uPVC might still be the right choice.

Heat Performance

Jaipur peaks at 45°C routinely. uPVC's primary limitation in Jaipur's climate is thermal expansion. uPVC expands significantly at high temperatures — the frames warp, seals fail, and the track systems bind. Premium uPVC (reinforced with steel inserts) handles this better, but costs comparably to aluminum.

Aluminum has higher thermal conductivity (transmits heat), which is a disadvantage for temperature regulation unless you specify a thermal break aluminum profile. Standard aluminum in Jaipur: hot to touch in summer. Thermal break aluminum: comparable to premium uPVC for heat insulation.

Durability

Aluminum: indefinite lifespan if the surface finish is maintained. The structural section does not degrade — ever. Powder-coated finish lasts 10–15 years before requiring touch-up.

uPVC: degrades under sustained UV exposure. Yellowing, brittleness, and surface chalking are common in Jaipur installations older than 7 to 10 years, particularly on south and west faces.

Aesthetics

Aluminum: Clean, slim sight lines. Modern and commercial aesthetic. Available in any RAL powder coat color. Consistent appearance over decades.

uPVC: Bulkier frame sections. Fewer color options (white and limited woodgrain finishes standard). Can look dated in modern architectural contexts.

Cost Comparison (Jaipur 2026)

  • Standard sliding aluminum, 1.4mm: ₹300–380 per sq ft
  • Standard sliding uPVC: ₹280–360 per sq ft
  • Premium aluminum with thermal break: ₹550–700 per sq ft
  • Premium uPVC (steel-reinforced): ₹480–620 per sq ft

At equivalent quality tiers, aluminum and uPVC cost within 10–15% of each other. The durability difference over 15 years makes aluminum the better long-term value.

When uPVC Makes Sense

  • High-salinity coastal locations (not relevant to Jaipur, but matters if you're ordering for a Goa or Mumbai property)
  • Budget projects where lifespan beyond 8–10 years is not the priority
  • Situations requiring maximum acoustic insulation (multi-chamber uPVC slightly outperforms standard aluminum)

Furnshin's Recommendation

For Jaipur residential and commercial: aluminum, 1.6mm or 1.8mm wall thickness minimum, powder coated. On west and south facades where heat gain is a concern: consider aluminum with thermal break profile and add reflective glass. This combination outperforms uPVC in every Jaipur-specific parameter.
